| Applications for J-E Dollars for Scholars awards will be available in the high school guidance office and are due back to the guidance office according to the schedule set by the Board for Directors each year. Students will use the application form adapted from the national organization and approved by the Board of Directors (school data; personal data: extra-curricular activities, work experience, community service, extenuating circumstances; academic performance; reference). Each application returned to the guidance office will have a number assigned to it in place of the students name so as to preserve the anonymity of the selection process. It is the policy of J-E Dollars for Scholars that all local money raised is earmarked for graduating students of the J-E High School who will be attending an accredited post-secondary school. Once this criterion has been met, should additional funds be available, other resident students will become eligible. The Awards Committee will score all applications as directed by the Awards Chair, using the point system outlined by the national office. Six individuals from the board (other than the Awards Chair) will serve on the scoring committee, and six others outside the board will be invited to help. Four board members (other than the Awards Chair) and two outside the board will serve on the selection committee. The high school guidance counselor will be asked to assist both committees. All awards selections are based on the student with the highest total score on the application who meets the donor criteria, or the highest scoring student in a specific section of the application who meets the donor criteria (exception: employers with multiple candidates; unrestricted awards, i.e., those with no criteria for selection and are left to the selection committees discretion). Students receiving awards will be notified by letter which will include an acknowledgement form (personal data, school, etc.) and a media release form. Non-recipients will receive letters thanking them for making application to J-E Dollars for Scholars. J-E Dollars for Scholars minimum award will be $500. Any gift to J-E Dollars for Scholars of $500 or more may become a named scholarship. The award will carry the name specified by the donor unless the donor specifies it as an anonymous donation. Gifts may result in annual awards or one-time awards as designated by the donor. Sponsors will have the opportunity to present their award if they so choose. They will be notified of the name of their recipient by letter. Awards will be presented to recipients at the annual awards night. Recipients will be provided with the name of the donor to thank. Each student will receive by check ? of the total award in the Fall semester and ? in the Spring semester. Checks will be mailed upon receipt by our Treasurer the form provided to verify the students actual enrollment and registration at the institution for each semester. Any recipient postponing college attendance may have until the following September (one year) to use his/her award. If funds are not used they will revert to the General Fund of J-E Dollars for Scholars. Revised 8/11/04 |
